Since it has not had a problem while repairs are free, should it start to be problematic when they’re not?

And is there any way to know what that CEL means?

Kinja'd!!!

Also, is it easy for one with no experience with cars to do an oil change? This is about the mileage to do so.

What make/model? There might be a way for you to view the codes in the gauge cluster. Many makes have the ability, it's just a matter of knowing the specific way to access it.

yea oil changes are probably the easiest thing to do on a car. make sure you keep everything clean. Make sure you tighten everything up properly. the drain nuts needs to go back in before adding the new oil. check type and quantity. make sure the filter gasket comes off with the old filter (i messed that up before, big mess) use a funnel to make pouring easier and cleaner.

I believe the codes can be viewed on the gauge cluster using the following method:

1. Get in the car, close the door.
Perform steps 2-6 fairly quickly (less than 3 sec’s total time).
(The key should not return to the OFF position through this next sequence!)

2. Turn key to ‘ON’ position
3. then back to ‘ACC’
4. then to ‘ON’
5. then back to ‘ACC’
6. then to ‘ON’

If there are any stored codes, they will appear immediately, in place of the odometer.

You probably will not be able to clear the code(s) from there, but you will at least be able to read them.

I found the procedure here , which also seems to have some good resources for looking up the code(s).

I have a button instead of a key. What then?

Is the car on in the picture? If it’s just in “ON”, but not running, or “ACCESSORY” it may just be lighting all the warning lights up. Anyway, it’s a Hemi so you shouldn’t have any major issues with it for a while if you keep up on maintenance. Which at the mileage should just be oil and filter, and air filters every few thousand miles.

It was not running; probably just the warning lights, and the TPMS shouldn’t be on either.

You can go to any parts store and ask to borrow their ODBII scanner which will tell you what is causing the CEL. And yes, Oil changes are easy enough for one with no experience to do.

Get Oil & Oil filter & make sure you have a filter wrench and a vessel for the used oil

Move the vehicle to a level area and get under the vehicle and with the vessel in place to catch the used oil. Then remove the drain plug. ( I have performed this step without having the car lifted but it is not always fun nor easy, ramps or jack stands are much preferred)

Once the oil stops spewing from underneath, loosen the Oil Filter with the filter wrench. Let the remaining oil in the filter drain into your vessel.

Put the new filter on and put the drain plug back in place. (do note: some vehicles are more prone to the drain plug stripping than others. Be careful not to cross thread, over tighten or otherwise ruin your oil pan)

If the car is on ramps or jack stands lower it down so the car is once again level.

Open up the oil fill port and pour in a few quarts of Oil. Check the oil level using the dip stick. repeat. As you get close to the oil level being full change from a few quarts to one quart, it will sneak up on you.

Once the dip stick shows it is full, button everything back up and take the car for a spin around the block.

Check the oil level once again, you never know.

If it wasn’t running and you had the key turned so all the electronics were on that’d explain it. If you turn it one setting below starting it usually they light up every warning light. I’d only be possibly worried is if the CEL or TPMS came on while driving.

Autozone or any other type of auto parts start will more than likely give you a free vehicle scan.

I believe you need to remove the push button itself, like in the video, then follow the directions above using your fob just like a standard key. I believe it’s the same on the 2013 as on the 2009 in the video.

The very minute. In fact, if you get up from your chair right now and step over to the window where you can see your driveway, you will notice that your car has caught on fire.
